The latest from Brum is that the airport will only allow one of the handlers to have three gpus airside for reasons unknown. The fact that quite a lot of the remote stands do not have a fegp supply means that aircraft have to sit with the apus running on turnarounds which is not cost efficient for the airlines and also causes noise pollution in the local area. Three GPUs are not enough for all the stands without FEGP.
The ID card problems continues as I have now discovered that because some of the handlers staff are on restricted IDs and are waiting for the airport to process their applications they are not allowed to operate as part of the pushback team which means that during the busy period there are not enough of then to go round.
All of this is costing the based airlines money ! Expect serious disruption this summer and I hope that the based airlines have a serious talk with the airport management and tell them to get their act together quickly.
