Do you know which carriers? If it is the locos then it can probay be addressed by an extension to terminal 3 to the north? My feeling is that in 10 years we will see plans to demolish and redevelop this site as well so anything done here can be reasonably inexpensive.

An alternative to provide more contact stands would be to build the 4th finger pier of the extended T2 which is currently planned to be non contact stand (the area currently/recently used as a car park).

If runway capacity becomes an issue, surely things can be done to increase this (e.g. Air traffic controll procedures, landing aids, taxiways, crossing points)?
