You need to swim 50m unaided, generally thats 2 laps in a community pool. You also need to tread water for 3 minutes (without stopping). You'll also be doing swimming exercises at ground school too, failing that you would not be able to progress to graduation.
You don't need to rush the 50m. You can literally swim in any position at your own pace.
