The route is there predominately to serve the business market, which will not book until the last 8 or so weeks before departure. The number of bookings will only be a handful at the minute (which should be expected at this stage) and is
no basis to say whether the route will be a success or not. Flybe will be making no money selling tickets at £70 rtn and needs passengers to be paying a much higher price in the closing weeks before departure (a bit of revenue management 101 for you there...)
I am sure this route will do okay for the short period of time it operates. Many seem to see this as the airline "showing its dedication" to Cardiff, however personally I see it is a quick gimmick for Flybe to monopolise on the negative press generated by the Severn Tunnel closure - which, fair play, is a clever idea. Passengers will try it as an experience, but in the long term the route can not compete with the train (particularly once the line is electrified).
People are really reading into this route than they should be and this thread is turning into a bit of a joke seemingly lead by one individual...
