Actually, both the LAA committee for the Bill Woodhams Trophy and HCAP for the Masters Medal were under the impression that she had done both trips solo at the time they decided to make the awards.
I have been told this by several people who were actually at the meetings.
The subsequent amendment of justification only came about as they became aware of the actual facts (not what was splashed all over the press). Rather than admit to having made a mistake, they preferred to fudge it.
