There are further steps you can take, but they get a bit involved - searching for, and uninstalling about a dozen specific "Updates". I haven't been bothered by any pop-ups for ages, BUT you need to look at every update offered each Patch Tuesday, as one or two persistent ones will keep re-appearing...
