One thing that you should know is that the FLVC only authorizes you to operate a Canadian aircraft; it does not permit you to train for additional ratings. If you only wish to do some recreational flying during your stay, the FLVC should be just fine; but if you decide that, e.g., you'd like to learn to fly floatplanes while you're here, you should apply for the Limited Term Private Pilot Licence (LTPL or LTPL/MC).
