So, basically, the RAF consists of the 'winged master race'. Other wearers of the light blue are just 'assistants'.
We're all 'assistants' on delivering the airborne effect on the desired target. Some have a bigger role to play than others, but we're all part of the team that delivers that 'effect'.
Despite my suggested 'BLUNT' badge, I do think a badge of trade/branch is a good idea. Being able to walk into a room and at a glance have a reasonable idea of someone's specialisation is a good thing. That's why the WSO/WSOp flying badge was such a daft idea...
Originally, it was planned to have a badge to distinguish between a Nav and a Fast Jet Weapons System Operator - it went wrong when non-FJ types started to get involved. Personnally, I would have revived the RO (RADAR Observer) brevet for the FJ types.
Anyway, I believe there should be a distinguishing insignia for all branches/trades...
