With a 72 day time period it will not become clear for weeks who is ahead. Clearly the Libs aim is to secure the Senate majority but that will be dependant on both State and local issues as well as Federal.

For example, in my area in NSW the big issue is local council forced amalgamations. While that is clearly not a Federal issue the timing of the Federal election to this process has become a de facto plebiscite on the issue, with our Federal member as well as the State member weighing in on the issue in what seems to be a vain attempt to distance themselves from a locally very unpopular move. So far the local process seems to be very successful with a very large amount of community support.

If the Aviation Community wants the same sort of leverage clearly they will have to focus on what we can win and that is probably in the Senate. The success of Nick X in pushing our cause proves that we should push for the Senate. However to do this will require a huge amount of co ordination and funding. Is that going to happen?
Probably not in my experience unless a coordinating group is to step up.
