Hihhin, an instrument with a single gyroscope cannot detect an attitude change on the axis of rotation of the gyroscope itself, so the gyroscope must be positioned in the instrument at 90 degrees to the axis of aircraft motion you need to measure. Thus, the gyroscope in a DG rotates on an axis is horizontal in the instrument, and an artificial horizon has the gyro spinning on a vertical axis.
