I reckon BOH could survive limited or without airline services purely because of the large amount of other aviation services based out of the airport (& the business park). A nice length of runway, an abundance of space & good instruments, the facility is still prime aviation land - with the right amount of enticement if airline services were limited, I reckon many aviation services would jump at the chance to use the facility. Yes the current management are dire, but let's not give up hope - Hurn has plenty of life left in it, let's not condemn it to the grave quite yet.
Very true. The only problem is the present management who are focused on Commercial Airlines and, at the same time, managing to pi$$ off most of the GA businesses at the airport with huge rents, huge landing fees and zero co-operation. A number of aviation businesses (ones with aeroplanes that use the runway) are rumoured to be leaving.
The only reason to keep such an incompetent management team in place at Bournemouth must be that it is part of a plan to close the airport. Of course everyone locally wants to keep the airport, including the local authority, but if MAG can prove the airport is not viable, MAG have a convincing argument to close aviation operations and dig up the runway. The value of the land as building land is far more than it is worth as an airport.
Put a competent team in and the airport would survive. Sell it to an owner other than MAG and it would thrive.
