CAPA: BHX vs MAN
A CAPA report linked from the Birmingham thread is suggesting that BHX will grow faster then MAN from now on owing in part to what it portrays as a saturation of European destinations at MAN. I'm not sure about that, there are still places which have either no direct service or only a seasonal/ad hoc. Lyon, Valencia, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Eastern Europe generally. Luxembourg is coming back after a long break, Vienna only recently back.
Let's not forget domestically within the UK we have lost Gatwick and Stansted, which are probably not viable from BHX but maybe from MAN as point to point in competition with rail for non-central London areas. Even where we have service to a European city, frequency-building is important, especially to the business traveller. Business destinations need a minimum of a morning and evening flight in each direction, daily. Europe will always be the UKs biggest market. Plus feed to MAN's growing long-haul network.
