(a) as a youngster, I did that on a number of occasions .. and frightened the bejezus out of myself on several examples (slow learner) .. talk about young chaps and self-perceptions of invincibility ..
(b) many years ago, the grandson of my parents' best friends and a mate both died after surviving a scud runner prang in the Blue Mountains .. a bit tragic to suffer a young chap screw up, more or less get away with it .. and then die from survivable injuries ..
As I see it, one of the biggest training challenges in aviation (and most hazardous undertakings) is to do our best to put old heads on young shoulders ..
