I really don't care if he's Australia's most eminent proctologist, the bit that did it for me was that, regardless of anything else, he was disappointed that his mobile phone couldn't get reception out there.
I think he may have been prompted to add that statement.
Some satphones are better than others. The Iridium ones are the best, satellite voice, data and GPS enabled. Also tracking capable.
I second that, there is another product being heavily advertised at the moment that only uses one Satellite!
Why didn’t he make a “PAN” call before landing, and then wait by the aircraft for help? As for leaving the aircraft to walk 70kms feeling ill! He is a very lucky man!
