If only the experience was important to them, why would they bother doing an assessment? Just reading the CVs would be sufficient. How you perform during the interview and simulator is what matters.
And by the way, that guy did not stall during the V1 cut exercise, is a captain and not an FO on the Caravan, and has more than a 1000h turboprop multi-crew, which was the requirement to apply. No inside friends needed there.
