Were they worried that someone may have swapped the units?
I had heard that a few people in the dive circles were a bit annoyed when the ATSB said that 48m was too deep to recover the recorders. There was a bit of "bar talk" from a few recreational divers about going out there to get them just to prove them wrong. How serious it was I don't know. Perhaps that prompted the renewed ATSB interest.
