I don't think Italian language is a mandatory requirement any more. Alitalia is a private European company nowaday, I don't see any reason why it should be mandatory.
Of course, should you succeed during the process you'llbe based in Italy, you'll mainly work with Italian colleagues and you'll fly aircraft with an Italian flag on the tail, so, in my opinion, would be very wise of you to start studying Italian since now.
