Yep, the ATR was indeed tested in severe iceing by the NTSB. The same test was offered to Fokker, BAe Aerospace, Bombardier and some other. I cant say they said no, but fact is none, other than the ATR, went through that test. Wonder why..!?
The old rule "leave and avoid iceing condition" is still valid.
