This was quite a few moons ago when BA were running the 'Shuttle' product and would have a standby airframe if the first one was full, or something like that.
I boarded an EDI - LHR flight to find that there were two occupied seats other than mine, former Goodie Tim Brooke-Taylor in one and his Golf Clubs in the other.
