Historically the overall success rate is around 50%. Around 1/3 are lost at the academy (failure and withdrawal), with the remainder failing the field sim or failing on-the-job training. There is a great investment in training but an even greater emphasis on meeting the standards required.
For better or worse the selection process is an imprecise science and it's hard to tell who can pull it all together at the end.
