Lost Torch?
With the loss of only one torch, dear old UA-888 can go anywhere it wants to go. Repairs and pax accommodation in SFO are a lot easer in SFO and there are multiple other choice if needed. With three apparently still blowing lots of hot air, 'nearest suitable' is not required. Your can bet that this was an OPS decision, not a crew choice.
