Yes tragic, interesting that the cruise altitude VFR on top was 6500, the SAR helicopter pilot said the stratus layer tops were about 4K with some culmulus a bit higher, It seems he realized via the Tiree weather report broadcast to the CAT that it was a no go but somehow descended into IMC in a gradual turn, distraction perhaps as there would be no good reason to descend for the turn back.
Again such a shame a young engineer and a well liked doctor lost.
