I see the differences between your working environment - and mine.

Where I have an IFR equipped twin engine helicopter with a co pilot, lots of wires "downstairs", which makes low flying underneath the clouds - if vis is bad, a real pain, looking for these f...... wires you know they are there any second now....
you are single pilot in a single engine helicopter with giant mountains around and a density altitude, which I can imagine, makes autorotation a little more demanding then doing it more or less sea level....

So for me going VFR on top (or IFR) is a reliev, while for you it brings up this gut feeling and a higher workload.
