Of course, it was never
forced. It was often offered at the whim of someone who is no longer in position to do so but it was always at the discretion of the individual to accept it or not.
It is a matter of fact that multi base airlines often promote with a required base or type change and nothing specific to Jet2.
And yes, some people also choose lifestyle over promotion.
