That's correct - the flight planning and performance exams (and M & B) used to be based on CAP 696, 697 and 698 - now the relevant charts are included in the questions. But the definitions aren't! You can download the CAPs from the CAA website (so the answer is that you don't need that particular course) but you can't take the CAPs into the exams any more. However they are still essential reading.

Note, however, that some of the new questions are not based on them, but they shouldn't be a problem to people who know the basic principles of using charts.
