The Nimrod 2 had Canadian acoustics from CDC
Well, I never knew CDC eventually got the contract. I set up the blind trial at Farnborough in 1994 (JAAC?), pitting the CDC processor against GEC-Marconi's. CDC's won hands down - it wasn't even close - but the political word came down, it shall be an indigenous UK technology. Looks like this was overturned. The CDC President came across personally, perhaps hoping is Geordie accent would carry the day, but really to visit his old mum! Their UK rep was a retired VSO down in Cornwall. I'm all for UK companies, but in this case I thought GEC-M were a little too complacent. That year at BUTEC, their system showed a sub had done an about turn in the space of 200 yards, when being tracked by a HAS Mk6. During the mission tape replay session, the RN Observer was heard to announce "What a pile of ****".
