I know this is not a rail forum so perhaps we'd better not get too involved but the Greater Anglia franchise is, I believe, up for grabs and should be awarded in about a year or so. I remember hearing somewhere that a condition of the new franchise would be improvements and more trains on certain lines and there was a mention of Southend. We'll probably have to wait until at least the December 2016 timetable to find out so it's just a case of wait and see!
One lives in hope that c2c will be the successful bidder. They have committed to an extensive delivery of new rolling stock. Who knows, maybe they intend reconfiguring their fleet to include the possibility of winning the route from London Liverpool St to Southend. Certainly the c2c rail fleet is significantly higher quality and offers good passenger experience and with the operational efficiency c2c have consistently delivered on their existing Southend or Shoeburyness routes. Will be very good result for SEN and airport passengers.
