Given this aircraft change, wouldn't it make more sense to transfer these routes to LGW to free up valuable slots at LHR?
The LHR-NAS route always used to carry large numbers of connecting passengers from Germany, Switzerland, Scandinavia and the like. Since BA no longer serves those markets from LGW this feed would be lost if NAS moved to LGW.
Apart from that BA has recently announced new or reinstated routes from LHR for next year, to Inverness, Billund, Kalamata, Chania, Mahon, Bari amongst others. This indicates BA is not particularly short of slots at the moment. It could also of course be Willie Walsh reinforcing his point that he doesn't want a bar of (paying for) Runway 3
