Philips (not so) SmartTV and the Internet

OK,
Got the TV set up and connected to the internet (Router -->Time Capsule Wifi --> Apple Airport (extending the Wifi downstairs) and then Ethernet cable to the TV).

Most of the time connecting to streaming services it works fine. It's not as quick as my PC but it isn't painfully slow either.

However, whenever I am out of the room and the Mrs wants to connect to her favourite programs it slows to a crawl. When it does eventually connect it will work fine for a few minutes and then either freeze, or lose the sound. Once in a while it works OK.

Our Internet connection isn't particularly fast (advertised 5mb; tested around 3.8~4.2) but it isn't slow either.

I can't find any information on the TV's buffer (if any). I suspect that the servers she is trying to access are very busy in the early~mid evening. But she can access her programs without similar problems using her iPad (connected over Wifi to the Airport)

So I am clueless! Any suggestions?
