For a number of years I 'commuted' across the North Sea.
Good crossings and bad crossings from glassy-flatcalm to roaring storms.

One morning (the journey was overnight) I was sat in the restaurant for breakfast and was surprised to see that they were washing the windows.
I assumed that this was to get rid of the salt spray deposits from the previous rough night, but on closer investigation it was the sea breaking over the bow of the vessel and splashing onto the windows and running down the glass.

The movement of the ship was not particularly noticeable as we were heading directly into the sea and there was little or no roll involved.
