Firstly, from the model of modem provided, I'm making an educated guess that your ISP is Sunrise, and what follows is based on that assumption: ;-)
* It should indeed all be plug-and-play (according to
the instructions ), and that you do not need to enter ISP username, etc. That should be done automatically between modem and ISP).
* It
might be that the modem is faulty, but before exchanging etc etc, I'll chuck another thought into the ring...
Based on
1/ "I thought it would be as simple as removing the Ethernet and DSL (phone) cables from the back of the old modem and plugging them into the new modem"
and
2/ "when I reconnected the two cables the old modem worked just fine")
I'd contend that the problem is highly likely to be that you need to use not just the new filter provided, but that you also need to use the new cable.
