I hate the way blame always seems to be laid at the pilots feet...Statements like 80% of crashes are due to pilot error, do nothing for the public or the profession.

replace the words "blame and Due to" and the pilot becomes only one of several causal factors. In the long run as many have pointed out that we can't seem to achieve zero mechanical or system screw ups so we depend on the pilot to mitigate a large percentage.
He just becomes one of the areas in the recommended actions in spite of what the newspapers say or a discussion board like this
