A few years back I was sitting in the tower watching one of my students doing some circuit consolidation.
It was very quiet - he was the only guy on frequency. On one circuit, as he was approaching the threshold I noticed that he hadn't made a 'final' call.
I mentioned this to the ATCO who remarked that he had noticed but since there was no one else about, he didn't think it was worth distracting the student just before touchdown.
So, the student touched down, did a roller and lifted off again for his next circuit. As he was climbing away a rather sheepish voice came over the radio:
"G-XX, errr..... very late finals"
