What happened to the Hainan aircraft that was supposedly visiting today and an announcement about MAN/PVG service?
Yes, Rampman proved correct in saying there was no Hainan aircraft coming. I'm sure the poster(s) who mentioned these did so in good faith, but unfortunately the sources of such stories, rumours and speculation don't always prove accurate. There was also talk of investment in MAG stock by the Hainan Group, although there may have been translation issues involved in that. There were even suggestions that the Chinese thought our TP too modest and wanted to upscale it to truly world class.
The bottom line is that we have gained a new direct service to PEK and the coverage has been good for the city's profile both here and in China, both of which are good news. Unfortunately, expectations were raised higher by stories that proved unfounded and for some therefore, there is perhaps a feeling of anti-climax. However, let's see what develops in the future.
