The other week I looked for a friend in ABZ who asked the same question in here is a summary of what I told him.
Helicopter pilot is on the skills list so you can apply, the new system however won't give you the visa unless they allow it. In the past you could get the visa with no work to go to as long as your occupation is on the list.
Working in Australia
AFT is the place to go for study books etc and to ask the question of how to convert as that is their occupation,flying school.
There are Line and SAR pilots out of work here at the moment and the short term prospects are prob like that, long term however Australia is a wonderful place to be.
It takes considerable time to go through the process so if you are sure you want to try get it all moving. It took us 3 years from buying the books to self study at home till we actually set foot in Perth to start our new life.
