AFAIK the APIS data is transmitted to the receiving border control. But does the airline cross-check the information at the gate? That would be time consuming.
I wonder if the receiving border control agents would even notice.
Oh, as far as Rip-Off U2. Remember they sell VAT/Excise/Duty free goods on flights to/from non-EU at exactly the same price as non-exempt goods on intra-EU flights. A £4 tin of crap lager is 90% rip off.
