My comment on GO wasn't so much a criticism of no Chinese announcement but more the go ahead of some pretty amazing investment in housing /office/ retail redevelopment in Ardwick and indeed Salford Locks.
ie well we ain't got the China route but we have got some pretty mega Chinese investment.
Whilst not airport related it's a tremendous opportunity to redevelope some run down areas of the City and fill in those gaps.
....All of which improves the City and the prospects for the airport generally !

ATNotts - Talking to Chinese students in Liverpool recently they "appeared" more switched on to the UK as an entity rather than just London and perish the thought felt there was a better vibe in Liverpool than London hence their choice
.....incidentally all 30 of them had CX bags Hong Kong - Man so "hopefully" they were on our Cathay.
