Actually, it is 'poor form' for individuals to be in a voluntary position training pilots who are on lesser conditions than themselves; their eventual replacements.
Certainly not 'giving something back' to the industry; more like contributing to the race to the bottom.
The letter is a start, but it should be followed by resignations from these voluntary checking and training positions. Then you might gain some respect. If the system is that broken, you should not be part of it.
