I was in a similar situation last year, though not quite as comprehensively lapsed as you.
I see you are in Hampshire, so you could do what I did - go and see nice Uncle Bob at Western Air, Thruxton. Here I am, 12 months later with my IMC (IR(R))renewed and TWO licences in my nice blue plastic wallet.
They guided me towards the simplest, cheapest route through the CAA paperwork maze.
