Perhaps these are parts that the Russian backed rebels failed to clear when they "secured" the site from any inspection team.
The area was relatively quiet in July 2014, but it was the Ukrainian (Kiev) military that started a large offensive immediately after the downing of MH17, thus making it impossible for the inspectors to do their work and conduct a thorough investigation of the crash site.

But it was the Ukrainian army that seemed intent on disrupting expert work on Monday, as they apparently launched an offensive against rebel positions close to Donetsk railway station, as well as in other towns across the region.
In the mean time, we're >one year down the road. Plenty of time for
both sides to fabricate and enhance any 'evidence' that suits their geopolitical and military objectives.
