As I understand it BA receive funds for a direct service to be operated to BDA from LON by their government. It's hardly worth using a vital LHR slot if the status quo remains. Unfortunately the BDA is one of the last LGW departures so often falls prey to reactionary delays from earlier departures. Also the operation of 3 X 777 config types doesn't help.
