Heli1 and Torque, thanks very much for info which will be useful. I did get some operational details of one job which entailed the rescue of crew members from a Greek ship and for which the crew received Greek bravery awards which they were permitted to wear on their uniforms. Any more details like that help to flesh out the history in human terms so more please.
