I remember a 337 doing a partial wheels up in Gove early 80's.

Long story but it was being ferried back from Darwin via a Maningrida overnight having completing a double engine overhaul in Darwin.

With an unexpected higher fuel flow, several of the Maningrida lads 'borrowing' some fuel on the overnight and some less than accurate fuel checks it resulted in a straight in glide approach onto Rwy 13 at Gove.

It could have ended up a story only for his Grandkids but unfortunately a main gear struck the TOP strand of the 3 strand perimeter fence and the aircraft came to rest rather forlornly just past the threshold with some gravel rash and a broken gear.

Six inches higher and he would landed with enough enertia to roll to a stop at the bowser with Otto the refueller ready to fill her up!

Six inches in 40 Nm ! Bugger!

Sorry for the thread drift.
