Sounds a good plan
If it fits in, I would possibly do the PPL in UK, then you can learn to navigate by other means than roads and railways
Having said that, Mauna Loa is an excellent choice, and one or two of our guys are instructing there. You could do the whole thing there, always bearing the above in mind.
