Does anyone believe that a 3 hour minimum connection time between LHR and LGW is sensible
Realise I'm a bit late to the game here....

Unless you enjoy stress, and enjoy running around whilst lugging suitcases.
Doesn't matter how you do it, public or private transport, three hours arrival gate to departure gate is just stupid.
