The Aer Lingus 757 in its current transatlantic configuration only seats 177 passengers, an A320 can do the same job with 174 seats at a much, much lower cost. It's just not economical for short haul, even more so when you compare it to the 212 seat A321, admittedly rarely based at SNN but would be taken into account when looking at the wider short haul network.
