As regards the 757, would having 1 getting maintenance not be sufficient. There is 2 757's based in SNN, so if they alternate daily eg 1 does JFK+Shorthaul route and the other does BOS+Maintenance and they switch every day? Also JFK is only 6x weekly (exceptions made in the summer season eg tomorrow) so extra maintenance could be completed on the Tuesday.
I was more thinking of day to day snags. Look at it this way, the YYZ-DUB sits Idle for 5 or 6 hours in DUB, don't you think EI would rotate it through LHR if it was worth it? The fuel burn, combined with maintenance, makes it uneconomic. The Atlantic flights pay the bills, if the schedule starts getting regularly delayed, EI will suffer.
I'd love to see a CDG, FRA or AMS link in SNN, but a 757 is way too much aircraft don't you think? an A319 or Embraer would be far more suitable IMO
