Canada used to register all its aircraft CF- followed by 3 letters, which meant that there was a limited range of combinations available compared to, say, the UK with G- followed by 4 letters.
So the Canadians got into the habit, like the USA and many other countries, of re-using registration marks as and when required, though obviously there can't be two different aircraft with the same marks on the register
at the same time.
The UK, with a very few exceptions, doesn't re-use cancelled registration marks as there is no need to.
