What about the fact that Jetstar is currently advertising for LAMES and AMES to setup a maintenance base in AKL, preferably '787' rated says the ad. That would fit nicely with the rumour that Jetstar will be getting the first few 787-9's with the 787-8's going to mainline.

I would not be surprised at all to see the 800s be transferred to Qantas, where they should have been in the first place, but they won't be replaced with another long haul aircraft. They would make a nice domestic replacement for the A330.
