I can't believe the council has much say as it is 80% owned be Rigby group now a days, so would almost certainly say that's untrue. It is true however that Thomson are now running a very successful operation during the summer (flights are close if not full across all routes) with the based Germania aircraft that returns in 2016 once again, and there is further scope for additional flights and destinations in the future. Winter also see's slight growth with Thomson adding the second weekly flight to Tenerife
I have flown into the airport as a pilot, and it isn't really a difficult airport to land at, go around's don't happen that often, Runway 27 which is the most commonly used runway due to prevailing winds and also it has an ILS approach, altough on the other end runway 09 is a NDB/DME
